Eye Test

Saw images of the back of my eyes for the first time.
Bloodied moons with a dark nucleus and tentacles
tattooed across watery landscapes.

Aliens using my head as a host,
eye sockets as Monstrances,
distinct and binocular in their duties

but blind to the infinite blinking.
Poor mistaken zygotes falling for the mirage,
even with the help of spectacles.

Give me instead, the single eye,
that lawless cyclops who can see in all
directions and has no need of a partner.

Monstrance - the vessel used in churches for the exhibition of some object
of piety, such as the consecrated Eucharistic host.
